Welcome - Fish Creek Naturopathic Medicine

Dr. Joe Klassen, ND

Dr. Klassen is a graduate of the Bastyr University of Naturopathic Medicine in Seattle, WA., the leading educator of science-based natural medicine.  He practices in Calgary, Alberta at Fish Creek Naturopathic Medicine.  This four-year doctoral program includes dissection anatomy, physiology, pathology and basic sciences common to all medical education, with the added benefit of learning botanical medicine, physical medicine, hydrotherapy, homeopathy, counseling and nutrition as treatment options.  He completed his science prerequisites at Mount Royal College in Calgary, AB.  Dr. Klassen has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan.  After a career in the stressful world of Fortune 500 companies, he decided to make a radical change into the emerging field of natural and alternative medicine.  This experience gives him a real-world perspective on health challenges in our community.  Dr. Klassen has a special interest in the naturopathic principle of "Docere" or "Doctor as Teacher".  Accordingly, he teaches anatomy & physiology, cellular biology and pathology at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition in addition to his public seminars in Preconception Healthcare, Fertility Management and Stress adaptation.  In addition, he does wellness consulting and health education for individual organizations.  Dr. Klassen is a member of the Alberta Association of Naturopathic Practitioners, the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors, and the American Academy for the Advancement of Medicine.

Naturopathic Medicine

What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Founded upon a holistic philosophy, naturopathic medicine combines safe and effective traditional therapies with the most current advances in modern medicine. Naturopathic medicine is appropriate for the management of a broad range of health conditions affecting all people of all ages. Naturopathic physicians (ND's) are the highest-trained practitioners in the broadest scope of naturopathic medical modalities.  In addition to the basic medical sciences and conventional diagnostics, naturopathic education includes therapeutic nutrition, botanical medicine, homeopathy, natural childbirth, classical Chinese medicine, hydrotherapy, naturopathic manipulative therapy, pharmacology and minor surgery.

inherent in each individual human being. (Vis Medicatrix Naturae)
